After breakfast we drive to Kampala- Uganda’s capital. Its main tourist attractions are mainly pre-colonial and colonial cites that have a lot historical attachment to Ugandans. These include; the Kabaka`s (king`s) of Buganda palace, Kasubi tombs (Buganda king`s burial cite), Kabaka`s Lake (a man-made lake by the King of Buganda), gothic protestant and catholic cathedrals, Namugongo martyrs shrine, the Bahai temple, Gadafi Mosque (Uganda Supreme moslem council, Parliament of Uganda and the central business area.

After an early breakfast we visit the source of the Nile and drive to the scenic Bujagali Falls. Here, the dam with the biggest hydroelectric power station in Uganda producing up to (200 MW) has submerged most of the series of falls of the Nile known as Bujagali Falls. The scenic spot however attracts visitors for kayaking and water rafting as well as quad biking and bungee jumping or simply to marvel at the extraordinary scenery. We arrive for late lunch at another scenic spot on the Mt. Elgon – the Sipi Falls. Mount Elgon is deemed the water reservoir for the Nile. We can opt for an afternoon stroll around the area which is also home to more than 400 bird species.

Day 04: MBALE
After breakfast we hike to the base of the Sipi Falls. Sipi Falls is home to three spectacular waterfalls and is situated just outside Mount Elgon National Park. Besides being a world class area for mountain biking, it is also where the world’s best Arabica coffee is grown. In the late afternoon we prepare to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

After breakfast, drive to Murchinson Falls National Park through Soroti and Lira. Murchinson Falls or Kabarega Falls is the largest National Park in Uganda (1976 sqkm). It is split in the middle by the world’s longest river- the Nile. The park is home to the big five, although rhinos were poached during Idi Amin’s rule and they are being re-introduced into the park. Murchinson Falls derives its name from Sir Roderick Murchinson (1851–1853), who was President of the Royal Geographical Society. He was a catalyst for many explorations within ‘colonial’ Africa, most notably in the search for the source of the river Nile. Before entering the park we make a stop at the Karuma Falls and arrive at Chobe just in time for lunch.

After an early breakfast we drive via the park if the road conditions allow, or via Purongo to Paraa Safari Lodge with game viewing en-route. Murchison Falls National Park lies in the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley and hosts 76 species of mammals inclusive the big five and 451 birds. The center piece of the park is the Murchinson Falls where the Nile plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall. The mighty cascade drains the last of the river’s energy transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. This stretch of the river provides one of Uganda’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles. We arrive for lunch at the Paraa Lodge. In the late afternoon, we continue with our game drives. We come across lions, giraffes, herds of Ugandan Kobs, waterbucks and elephants.

After breakfast we take a cruise on the Nile to the base of the Murchinson Falls. We encounter Hippos and crocodiles in the river while elephants, buffaloes, plains game and giraffes visit the riverbanks to quench their thirst. The view at the base is spectacular. The Nile funnels into a 7 meter wide gorge and drops down 45m with astonishing power. We return to the lodge for lunch and explore the top of the falls in the afternoon.

After breakfast, take the ferry across the Nile and drive through scenic small scale farmland with lunch on our way to Kampala.
